Warranty benefits: how coverage works

Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty. The standard term is 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. If it is still active, you can use the remaining time and mileage up to those limits after buying the vehicle.

Example: a car whose basic warranty began in January 2024, with current mileage of 60,000 km, is covered until January 2028 or until it reaches 80,000 km — whichever comes first. This shows exactly how much warranty time and mileage remain.

Additional Tesla Used Vehicle Warranty. Where eligible for the vehicle and transaction, it provides another 1 year or 20,000 km of coverage after the basic warranty ends. If the basic warranty has already expired, the term starts at Tesla’s delivery of the used vehicle. Its benefit is additional support for repairs and parts needed to address covered defects in materials or workmanship.

Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty. This provides long-term support for two of an EV’s most important components. For many Model 3 and Model Y versions, original coverage is 8 years with a 160,000 or 192,000 km limit depending on the version. Coverage continues until the relevant expiry date or mileage limit under the original warranty terms.

For an individual offer, the most useful information is the expiry date and mileage limit of each coverage. This makes warranty support a clear part of the vehicle’s value.

The battery is part of the inspection

Tesla’s inspection includes the battery and charging. This is an important programme benefit: attention is given to the systems that shape everyday EV use.
